EMPORIUM — Like most organizations across the country, the past year put on hold activities of the Olkosky-Jessop American Legion Post 194 in Emporium, which canceled annual events, meetings and special activities.
The Legion is ready to start being active again.
Members resumed monthly meetings in January, with the next one to be held at 7 p.m. March 30 at the Vets Club. All members are encouraged to attend meetings throughout the year.
Post representatives explained it can only be a viable organization in the community if it has the support of its membership. Meetings are at 7 p.m. the last Tuesday of every month, except December, at the Vets Club.
New members are always welcome, too. Those who served in the military who were honorably discharged any time since Dec. 7, 1941, are eligible to join the American Legion. Applications are available at the Vets Club on 3rd Street or by calling Commander Mick Fapore, 486-0664, or First Vice Commander Ralph Grovanz, 486-1925.
The American Legion has been an organization since 1919 that delivers support to veterans, their families and their communities. There are over 2 million members in more than 12,000 posts across the United States and worldwide.
