Tackling a climbing wall, studying the night sky, campfire treats—the adventures and traditions of summer camp are open to all girls who register for 2021 summer sessions hosted by Girl Scouts Western Pennsylvania (GSWPA).
In-person and virtual sessions are available to both non-members and members of Girl Scouts. Starting in June and running through August, each session provides girls the opportunity to experience the benefits of an all-girl environment and the leadership programming of Girl Scouts.
“The magic of camp happens as a girl finds her independence,” said Patricia A. Burkart, CEO of GSWPA. “With her fellow campers cheering her on, she bravely tries a brand-new thing — a tin foil dinner from the campfire, peeking under a rock to learn about bugs, or throwing a hatchet. It’s a foundation to grow her confidence to know that she can do anything, and that’s why outdoor experiences have always been a cornerstone of Girl Scout programming.”
With more than 100 in-person camp sessions across GSWPA’s four camp properties, which are in Armstrong, Butler, Cambria, and Erie counties, there are a wide variety of topics and adventures for girls in kindergarten through 12th grade to explore. Session styles include day camp, resident camp, family camp, troop camp, and leadership camp.
GSWPA has implemented new safety measures following guidance from the CDC, state, and local authorities, as well as the American Camp Association and Association of Camp Nurses. Regardless of the camp’s location, all GSWPA camps will follow the guidelines of the county with the strictest COVID-19 recommendations within the council’s western Pennsylvania footprint.
For girls with busy summer schedules that are still eager to learn and earn badges, GSWPA offers five unique, week-long virtual sessions that focus on specific topics and feature an at-home activity kit for each camper. Virtual sessions include family fun nights, campfires, pre-recorded materials, and live, interactive video sessions.
