UNIVERSITY PARK — Helping communities and organizations be better prepared to undertake more collaborative, culturally competent and cost-effective planning is the topic of a web-based seminar to be offered by Penn State Extension at noon on March 17.
Presenting the 75-minute interactive webinar will be Leonardo Vazquez, professional planner with The National Consortium for Creative Placemaking and New England College. He will explain why — in the face of complexities and uncertainties revealed by the pandemic and unrest of 2020 — planning effectively for the next decade will require being more adaptable for communities.
“There are three approaches to urban planning — prescriptive, proscriptive and adaptive,” Vazquez said. “The adaptive approach is best suited for times of rapid change and uncertainty. We will talk about how planners and organizations that rely on prescriptive and proscriptive strategies can modify their practice to be more adaptive.”
“Making Planning More Adaptable” is the second webinar in the Penn State Extension Winter/Spring 2021 Land-Use Webinar Series that runs through May. The webinar series assists municipal elected and appointed officials, planners, landowners, farmers, and community organizations be informed about land-use issues and decisions in their communities.
