SHARON — Johnsonburg’s Nolan Shaffer and Cole Casilio took home North West AA Regional titles Saturday at Sharon High School in their respective weight classes.
Shaffer decisioned Mercer’s Carson Filer 4-0 in the finals at 138 pounds, while Casilio defeated Reynolds’ Jalen Wagner by a 4-2 decision to capture the regional title at 160 pounds.
Kane’s Luke Ely made it to the finals at 152 pounds after beating Port Allegany’s Taro Tanaka by a 5-1 decision. Ely finished second after being pinned by Fort LeBoeuf’s Jack Rimpa in 1:07 in the finals. Tanaka wound up finishing fourth.
Also finishing second in their weight class was Port Allegany’s Braedon Johnson at 126 pounds. He scored a pin and got to the finals after winning a 5-3 decision in the semis, before falling to Greenville’s Chase McLaughlin by a 1-0 decision in the finals.
In the North West AAA Regional in Altoona, St. Marys’ Nick Crisp finished third at 172 pounds.
Shaffer, Casilio, Johnson and Ely will all compete at the West AA Super Regionals at the Kovalchick Center at IUP next Saturday.
