    HS BASKETBALL: Port Allegany girls get past Ridgway; Cameron Co. boys take down Jburg

    RIDGWAY — Leading by just one point heading into the fourth quarter, Port Allegany used a 16-6 run in the game’s final period to get by Ridgway, 40-29.

    Bree Garzel led the way for the Lady Gators (8-4) with a game-high 26 points, including three treys.

    Garzel and Evin Stauffer each brought down four boards and dished out three assists during the win, while Jade Evens and Garzel each recorded three steals.

    The Lady Elkers (0-4) trailed by no more than two points at the end of the first three quarters prior to Port’s fourth quarter run that decided the game.

    Payton Delhunty was Ridgway’s top scorer with 10 points, while Julie Peterson and Jenna Kasmierski each added seven.

    EMPORIUM — Kaelee Bresslin dropped a season-high 25 points to lead Cameron County to a home victory over Johnsonburg.

    Hailey Hilfiger finished with a double-double for Cameron County, recording 16 points and 13 rebounds, as the Lady Raiders (9-8) led by double digits after each quarter en route to a 15-point win.

    “We got off to a fast start,” Cameron County coach Dave Sullivan said. “Coach (Sue) Grumley is doing a good job with a very young team without any seniors. They play hard and with this year’s experience they”ll be a force next season.”

    Kaci Stelene was Johnsoburg’s (2-7) leading scorer with 11 points.

    Coudersport 44, Northern Potter 23

    ULYSSES — A 25-point night from Sarah Chambers paved the way for a 21-point road win for Coudersport over Northern Potter.

    The Lady Falcons held the Lady Panthers to ust one point in the first quarter and cruised to victory the rest of the way to improve to 15-1 on the year.

    Northern Potter (2-10) was led by Courtney Martin’s 10 points. The team made just six field goals during the loss and finished 11-of-22 from the free throw line.

    Kane 48, Smethport 26

    KANE — Rainee Wright hit three 3s as part of an 11-point night to key Kane past visiting Smethport. Audri Marconi added nine points for the winners, which improved to 4-4.

    The Hubbers (1-12) kept things tied after the first quarter, 6-6, but fell behind further and further from there. Elizabeth Hungiville and Coryn McClain each scored nine points in the loss. Sabrina Tanner (4 points) pulled down seven rebounds.

    BOYS

    Coudersport 82, Galeton 28

    COUDERSPORT — Five different Falcons scored in double figures as Coudersport hammered Galeton.

    Coudy (8-2) led just 17-12 after the first quarter but took a commanding 46-20 lead into halftime. The Falcons connected on 13 treys in the win.

    Hayden Keck and Christian Furman each scored 16 points, while Dalton Keglovits added 15 points, Derek Easton scored 11 and Brandt Kightlinger had 10.

    Keck also had 10 rebounds and six steals, while Keglovits added eight boards and dished out four assists.

    Noah Shutt paced the Tigers (0-10) with six points.

    Cameron County 46, Johnsonburg 39

    JOHNSONBURG — Hayden Brown poured in 18 points to pace Cameron County past Johnsonburg on the road.

    Caden Beldin added 10 points for the Red Raiders (13-2), whose only losses have come to Elk County Catholic. Johnsonburg (8-3) is the only team to have beaten the Crusaders so far.

    Gabe Watts (12 points) and Eric Christoff (11 points) were both in double figures for the Rams, which were whistled for 19 fouls.

    Elk Catholic 47, St. Marys 31

    ST. MARYS — Mark Kraus and Charlie Breindl combined for 33 of Elk Catholic’s 47 points, leading the Crusaders to a 16-point win over St. Marys.

    Kraus (17) and Breindl (16) also made all five treys for ECC (12-2) with Kraus making three of them and Breindl nailing two.

    After taking a 20-16 lead at halftime, ECC’s defense managed to hold the Flying Dutchmen (8-4) to just six third quarter points to take a 12-point lead into the fourth.

    Kraus and Breindl combined for 12 of the Crusaders’ 14 points during the third and Breindl went on to tally six points in the fourth.

    Mitchell Reider led St. Marys with 13 points, while Holden Housler scored six fourth quarter points to finish with eight on the night.
