Kane Area Superintendent Brock Benson announced Thursday that two Kane Area High School students have tested positive for COVID-19.
Due to the current protocols set by the Pennsylvania Department of Education, the high school will transition to remote learning today. With the weekend, that means the three-day requirement is met, and in-person instruction can resume Monday.
All high school extra-curricular activities are postponed until Monday. Meals will be available for pickup at the high school cafeteria doors from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday.
Benson’s letter to students and families noted that all those who have been in close contact with both students have been notified and will be quarantined for the required period.
The elementary and middle schools will remain open on Friday.
Benson’s letter acknowledges the frustration this may cause for families and explains that, because McKean County remains at “substantial risk” for transmitting coronavirus, these interruptions to the school year are likely to continue.
The letter also advises families to watch for symptoms of COVID-19, which include shortness of breath, fever or chills, coughing, sore throat, congestion, body aches and loss of the sense of taste or smell.
