A Galeton man is facing new charges after police allegedly found firearms in his pick-up truck during a traffic stop.
Michael F. Slifko, 65, is charged with firearms not to be carried without a license, a third-degree felony; two counts of possession of firearms prohibited, first-degree misdemeanors; and a summary charge of turning movements and required signals.
According to Coudersport-based state police, at 10:28 a.m. Jan. 12, a state trooper pulled Slifko over for a traffic violation in the area of Crippen Run and West Branch roads in West Branch Township.
Police discovered multiple firearms inside the truck, and through further investigation learned that Slifko is not allowed to possess firearms, police reported.
He was arraigned before District Judge Christopher Kalacinski on the new charges.
Slifko posted 10% of $10,000 bail, according to court records. A preliminary hearing is set for Friday.
Court records indicate Slifko has two additional active criminal cases in Potter County, one of them also for possessing firearms.
According to the case dockets, he is charged in one of the cases with 10 counts of possession of firearm prohibited, first-degree misdemeanors; and one count each of possession of a small amount of marijuana for personal use and possession of drug paraphernalia, misdemeanors. In the other case, he’s charged with DUI-controlled substance, possession of a small amount of marijuana for personal use and possession of drug paraphernalia, misdemeanors; and three summary charges.
Bail in both cases is unsecured, and no upcoming court dates are available.
