against Roach
A Bradford man allegedly made a hole in a fence at McKean County Jail in an attempt to escape.
Daniel Roach, 44, will be charged with criminal attempt to escape and related charges, Lewis Run-based state police reported.
According to police, at 8:54 a.m. Thursday, state troopers were dispatched to the McKean County Jail, 17013 U.S. Route 6, Keating Township, for a report of an attempted escape.
Through their investigation, troopers found that Roach put a hole in the yard fence to try to escape, police reported.
Roach has been in McKean County Jail since Oct. 26, when he was arrested on a different case. In that case, he faces 242 criminal charges for allegations he was selling methamphetamine, sexually assaulting a minor and at one point had a minor girl hold onto a firearm for him.
Roach has at least three other active cases, too: one in which he’s accused of possession of meth, another in which he’s accused of refusing to release a girl to the custody of Children and Youth Services, and a Venango County case in which he’s accused of delivering meth that was smuggled into a youth group home and given to minors.
There does not appear to be any court appearances scheduled. Both McKean County judges have recused themselves from Roach’s cases.
Charges pending against three in alleged stalking incident
Police said that charges are pending against three people after one of them tried to run a vehicle off the road, and someone in the second vehicle pulled out a handgun in response.
A press release from Lewis Run-based state police listed three people as arrestees: Seth Howard, 31, Craig Hostler, 33, and Brandon Hostler, 33, all of Port Allegany.
However, it is unclear if new charges will be filed against all, as two of them were arrested on previously issued warrants. Police merely said that charges will be filed in the office of District Judge William Todd.
According to police, at 4:18 p.m. Friday, Howard notified police that someone in a motor vehicle pulled a handgun on him in Cyclone. Police did not identify who allegedly pulled the handgun.
Troopers found the vehicle involved and pulled it over at the intersection of U.S. Route 6 and Jane Ware Road. The individuals in the vehicle — police did not say how many — were detained for questioning.
Among the individuals in the vehicle were Craig and Brandon Hostler, who both had active arrest warrants, police reported. The pair was transported to McKean County Jail.
Through further investigation, police learned that the handgun was pulled in self-defense, as Howard was allegedly trying to run the vehicle off the road. Howard was stalking someone in the vehicle he tried to run off the road, according to police.
The victim is listed as a 21-year-old woman.
Bradford woman charged with DUI, reckless
endangerment
A Bradford woman is facing DUI and reckless endangerment charges after an alleged domestic incident in October in Bradford City.
Carolyn B. Levar, 35, of 45 Clarence St., was arraigned Tuesday before District Judge Dominic Cercone on two counts of recklessly endangering another person, second-degree misdemeanors; three counts of DUI-controlled substance and five counts of possession of drug paraphernalia, misdemeanors.
According to the criminal complaint, at 4:42 p.m. Oct. 12, Bradford City and Bradford Township police responded to a Jackson Avenue home for a report of a domestic dispute involving Levar and Michael D. Rose-Unger.
Officers learned that Levar went to the home to see her child; there, a dispute escalated to the point where Levar jumped back in her car and stated that Unger slammed the car door on her hand, causing a cut. Also, Levar told police that Unger punched her in the face, but Unger and another witness stated that Levar punched herself, the complaint indicated.
An officer asked Levar about damage to her car, and she told him the damage just happened because she fell asleep. Minutes later, the 911 Center informed officers of a hit-and-run that just happened near Randolph, Cattaraugus County, N.Y., involving a car similar to Levar’s.
Admitting she was in the crash near Randolph, Levar told police that she contacted Unger after it happened and asked him what she should do; he told her to bring the car to him, according to court records.
Also, Unger gave a written statement in which he alleges that Levar tried to run him over while he was holding a baby, court records stated. He explained that when she pulled up to see the baby, she pulled over the sidewalk and into the grass, and he had to jump back onto the concrete patio away from the car.
When she pulled in, she had said, “Give me my (expletive) baby!” the complaint stated.
Levar admitted to police that she had marijuana in her system, and she agreed to take a blood test at Bradford Regional Medical Center.
After the blood draw, officers took her to the police station, where she started shaking, wanting to throw up and hallucinating. She told employees with Children and Youth Services that she could see gray wigs in the cell with her, and she admitted that she used methamphetamine in the car that day, according to court records.
Police searched Levar’s car and found a container with marijuana leaves on the outside, a full bottle of 99 brand coconut rum, less than one gram of suspected marijuana, a glass pipe with suspected meth residue, two glass pipes with suspected marijuana residue and two baggies with suspected meth residue, the complaint stated.
A preliminary hearing in this case is set for Dec. 2.
Bail for Levar was set at 10% of $5,000; however, she was already incarcerated due to allegations that occurred about two weeks after the above allegations.
On Oct. 27, McKean County CYS informed Bradford City Police of an emergency custody order for Levar and Unger’s child; police went to talk to Levar and Unger, and they were uncooperative and said the child was not there, the complaint stated. Police followed multiple leads trying to find the child, who was located with Unger and Levar at a residence in Erie.
Unger and Levar are charged with concealment of whereabouts of a child, a third-degree felony, and interference with the custody of children, a second-degree misdemeanor. Unger is also charged with obstruct administration of law/other government function, a second-degree misdemeanor.
Both have preliminary hearings set for today for the allegations that they concealed the whereabouts of the child.
