Registration for the 2020-21 chess club will be held on two days: this Wednesday or Nov. 14.
To learn how to play or to improve one’s play, residents are invited to visit the Bradford Knights’ Chess Club at 6:30 p.m. either day. Players should register at the door. This year, the club is meeting in the First Baptist Church on Congress Street each Wednesday from 6:30 to 8:15 p.m.
Participants should enter through the Elm Street parking lot and use the back door of the fellowship hall.
In order to meet CDC guidelines, all participants are asked to bring their masks and their own water bottle with their name printed on it.
All students in grades 3-12 are invited to join the scholastic chess program. The 30th annual Bradford Businessmen’s Chess League will begin Nov. 4 and run through Feb. 24. Adults are also welcome.
Many activities are scheduled, including pizza parties, matches, and tournaments. On Nov. 4, the group will hold its annual speed chess championship. The season will end Feb. 24 with a pizza party followed by awards.
Research continues to confirm the educational value that chess instruction has on cognitive development, critical thinking skills, and academic gains.
There is a fee. For additional information about joining the club or the educational benefits of chess, contact dr_ferguson@hotmail.com.
