Local business owners are invited to attend two events with the state senate candidates vying for the seat that Senator Joe Scarnati, R-Brockway, will vacate at the end of the year. The events are to hear questions and concerns from local business owners.
Margie Brown, the Democratic candidate for the District 25 seat for the state senate, will be present at 8:30 a.m. Oct. 14 at the Bradford Club.
Brown’s public relations representative, Paige Wolf, explained the event is meant to provide an opportunity for Brown to connect with the local business community. During the event, she will discuss her platform and answer questions related to her position on specific policies.
Brown’s platform focuses on providing better broadband to rural areas, thereby expanding job opportunities both through the installation process and the access to remote work, and improving access to quality healthcare on a local level.
Cris Dush, the Republican candidate for the 25th District seat, will be available at 8 a.m. Oct. 16 at the Bradford Club.
“I feel that the people in a given legislative district are looking to hire someone to fill a position of responsibility and to responsibly do the job. As the employers, it is my firm belief that they should have the opportunity to conduct a job interview,” Dush said Friday.
He explained that he has regularly heard from constituents that their decision to support him came after interacting with him in person.
“It’s through these interactions that I have not only had people tell me they would support me but they would ask me how they can help and many have become the outstanding volunteers that helped me overcome being hugely outspent in campaigns in the past,” Dush explained. “It has also led people with the means to help cover necessary campaign costs to help me to be able to do so.”
Dush, who currently holds the office of state representative for the 66th Legislative District, is running for state Senate on a platform of reducing government spending and protecting constitutional rights.
Both candidates discussed the challenges of the campaign trail during 2020 in light of COVID-19 concerns and restrictions. These events are intended to provide an opportunity for voters to get to know the candidates before the polls open Nov. 3.
For both events, a Continental breakfast will be served, free of charge. The events are sponsored by the Democratic and Republican parties
