POETRY: Frances Haight, a regular contributor to RTS, sent us a letter sharing some sad news Thursday.
At the young age of 86, she has run into some technology issues and will no longer be submitting her works of poetry. She says her computer and printer both stopped working and no one could help her resolve the issue.
Without a computer and printer, her regular mail submissions of her work have come to an end.
However, Judy Peterson has shared some poetry with The Era. Judy, a DuBois resident, is the daughter of Ms. Haight, so we are happy to see the talent extends to a new generation.
We are sharing a few of Judy’s poems for our readers to enjoy. The first, fittingly, is a tribute to her mother.
Mom
You’re the sunshine in my day
The love that’s in my heart
The happiness from my childhood
The love that will never part
Your wonderful sense of humor
Makes me laugh all day long
When I hear your beautiful voice
My heart bursts into song
You taught me everything I needed
To live my life so sweet
How can I ever thank you
For all the wonderful treats?
I love you, Mom!

Stressed
Everybody has it
No one likes to admit it
We fake and shake it off
Then wonder why we did it.
Our stress is there
Just under the surface
We try to ignore it
But it has a purpose.
Try as we might
To take it easy and be calm
We end up feeling sick
And have to seek a balm.
We ask ourselves if we can handle it
And wonder why we don’t try
To get it under control
And kiss the stress goodbye.
