ULYSSES — Bradford’s offense was firing on all cylinders, as eight different Owls scored in a 13-1 romp at Northern Potter.
Gavin McGee led BAHS (1-0) with a hat trick and added an assist, while Ethan Tate, Andy Mangold and Andrew Kane each scored twice. Caleb Geist, Brady Ervin, Cam Austin and Lucas Johnson each found the back of the net, as well.
Jaydon Warnick led the Owls with a pair of helpers, while Little, Ervin, Johnson, Austin, Brendan Confer and Mitchell Strauss each had one.
“Brady Ervin and Jaydon Warnick on the wings could not have done anything better than what I asked of them,” Bradford coach Wes Lohrman said. “They worked hard since July trying to make these spots their own, and today I was pleased with where we’re at and excited for where we’ll go the rest of the way.”
Meanwhile, the Bradford defense kept Northern Potter (0-1) mostly at bay, except for a Ryan Langworthy penalty kick goal in the second half. Bradford goalkeepers Alex Rimer and Tristan Dragoone combined for four saves on the day, while NoPo’s Pat Lehman racked up 16.
“It was nice today. We were able to get both (the older and younger) groups time out on the field… Defensively, I was very happy with how Tripp Hoover and Jon Komidar and Cam Austin organized our backline,” Lohrman said.
“Ciaran Coneely and Ethan Little also did a great job, and I’m pleased with how they played to start the season… Across the board, it felt good to be back on the field and watching these guys play.”
St. Marys 3, Port Allegany 1
PORT ALLEGANY — A strong first half powered St. Marys past Port Allegany on Monday.
The Flying Dutchmen (1-0) scored two first-half goals, one each from Viniciuz Nunez and Matthew Palmer, and never relinquished that advantage the rest of the way.
Port Allegany goalkeeper Ty Guilds registered 20 saves on the night, and of those, head coach Aaron Clark estimates that around 15 were during the first half.
“St. Marys was by far the better team today. They peppered Ty with shots left and right throughout the first half,” Clark said. “Ty kept it close and made some very acrobatic saves.”
After the intermission, the Gators (0-1) used a quick start to get back into the mix, as Ricky Phillips knocked in a corner kick to draw Port to within 2-1.
The teams battled back and forth for most of the rest of the half until Dominic Aiello put the game away for St. Marys with a goal in the final five minutes.
Dutch goalkeeper Jonathan Chamberlain made four saves on the day.
“It was a good first game of the season, especially without a scrimmage,” Clark said. “St. Marys had a lot working for them, and we found we have some areas we need to work on.”
Elk Catholic 3, Galeton 0
ST. MARYS — Three different Crusaders scored as Elk Catholic rolled past Galeton.
Eddy Messineo, Anthony Messineo and Percy MacDonald each found the back of the net for Elk County Catholic (1-0), while goalkeeper Ryan Jovenitti registered 15 saves.
“We played well. We started seven underclassmen which was good for us,” ECC coach T.J. Weaver said. “We only have two seniors on the team, so the kids played well and I’m very pleased with it.”
