EAST SMETHPORT — Livestock shows and sales are key activities in keeping alive the agricultural heritage of the nation’s county fairs.
Both of these events will be held this summer even though the 115th McKean County Fair has been canceled.
At 8 a. m., Saturday, Aug. 22, the junior livestock show is to begin in the Larry Ackley Building on the fairgrounds in East Smethport. Young people will show their market steers, goats and lambs, competing for trophies, banners and ribbons.
The livestock sale is also slated for the same day, starting at 7 p.m. with the same animals going up for bids. These animals were weighed in the first weekend in November, but due to COVID-19, the second weigh-in was canceled so there will be no record of weight gain.
Lloyd Burkhouse will be the auctioneer.
