WARM WEATHER SAFETY MINUTE: With summer officially here, Columbia Gas of Pennsylvania is kicking off its “Warm Weather Safety Minute” campaign, highlighting simple tips anyone can follow to stay safe.
Each week throughout the summer, Columbia Gas will highlight a specific topic related to natural gas safety on its website, Facebook and Twitter pages.
“This summer, we find ourselves in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. We are all experiencing distractions in our everyday lives including at home, at work and while on the road. From a safety perspective, when people become distracted safety related incidents tend to increase,” said Columbia Gas Safety Manager Jarrett Johnson. “At Columbia Gas, safety is a core component of our culture, our work, and our company. We encourage everyone who is visiting our website or following our social media outlets to share our safety messaging with a friend or loved one in an effort to minimize distractions and promote safety this summer.”
The first installment explains why customers must contact 811 at least three days prior to starting any digging project.
Future Warm Weather Safety Minute topics will include: Driving safely in work zones, Using your senses to detect natural gas and Checking for employee identification.

JINGLE BELL ROCK(DOWN): Half of Pennsylvanians do not expect to spend Christmas with their family this year, according to a survey by Christmas.co.uk.
A transatlantic survey of 3,000 Americans and Brits on their pandemic predictions for the holiday season found that, overall, 51% of Americans do not expect to spend Christmas with their family this year. This was slightly more optimistic than Brits at 59%. More locally, 46% of Pennsylvanians think this Christmas will be spent away from extended family and friends.
Despite the lingering concerns over COVID-19, some of those surveyed showed that family is important at the holidays, as 47% of people say they would break the rules to see family if lockdown was imposed over Christmas time.
Meanwhile, 28% would feel safer having a virtual Christmas in 2020.
