A Port Allegany woman who allegedly tried to stop traffic on U.S. Route 6 to tell people the world was ending will face charges in McKean County Court.
Michele L. Thompson, 48, of South Main Street, is charged with endangering the welfare of children, a third-degree felony; terroristic threats, a first-degree misdemeanor; recklessly endangering another person, a second-degree misdemeanor; and disorderly conduct and harassment, summary offenses.
According to the criminal complaint, on March 21, a member of the Port Allegany road crew contacted borough police about Thompson standing in the middle of the road along with a four-year-old child. Borough Officer Kevin Seipp was joined in responding by Smethport Police Chief Pat Warnick.
When the officers arrived, Thompson said “the world is ending and we all need to be kind” before she began yelling. She yelled at Warnick that he is a bad person and accused the officers of stealing “the toilet paper,” the criminal complaint read.
She admitted that she and the child were in the road, and said she was trying to get people to stock up and to tell them to “be kind,” the complaint stated. She became agitated with police, said she was infected and that the officers would be infected and “we need to be prepared because the world is going to end,” according to the complaint.
While Warnick spoke to Thompson’s husband, she became agitated and began to disrobe. Police convinced her to get dressed, and took her to Bradford Regional Medical Center for evaluation, the complaint stated.
A preliminary hearing was held Monday before District Judge Bill Todd, who bound the charges over to court. Thompson remains free on unsecured bail.
