Six Bradford Area High School seniors recently earned certificates from the online based “TestOut” program, which according to Doug Rose, computer technology instructor, prepares students for the CompTIA A+ certification test. In addition, the program also comes with its own certification called “PC Pro,” which is aligned to the A+ test.
Rose explained the program was especially beneficial when they had to move classes online due to the pandemic.
“With TestOut being an online curriculum, my students had full access to all materials/labs as long as they had a computer and internet at home,” he said.
Aaron Henry, Cameron Mertens, Luke Reed, Max Shugars and Mason Vetere all earned the PC Pro Certificate, while Dominic Cary earned both the PC Pro Certificate and the IT Fundamentals Certificate.
Rose said they are so confident in backing their student’s skills that they are offering employers a “$1,000 Skills Guarantee.”
“If any employer finds, after hiring and putting them to work for at least three weeks, that they do not possess the IT skills that we have certified under the applicable Pro Certification, then we will pay that company up to $1,000.”
Cary said participation in the program has “secured him a successful future,” noting that a huge part of his learning came from internships within IT departments of several companies. He described the program as having an “easy to follow pace that lets you and your teacher know which lessons you have completed.”
