EMPORIUM — A Smethport man was killed from injuries suffered in a crash with a tractor-trailer Tuesday morning on Sizerville Road in front of the Buttonwood Motel and Restaurant.
Emporium-based state police said Thomas Cioffi, 93, of Smethport, was pronounced dead at Penn Highlands Elk Hospital after the crash.
According to police, at 9:15 a.m. Tuesday, a pickup truck driven by Cioffi was pulling out of the parking lot of the Buttonwood, making a left turn onto Sizerville Road. As the truck crossed the northbound lane, it was struck by a 2019 International commercial vehicle driven by Todd Hainsey, 46, of Hyde.
After impact, both vehicles traveled west off the road, with Cioffi’s truck coming to rest about 40 feet off the west side of the road. Hainsey’s truck came to final rest near the Little League field.
Police said Hainsey was not injured.
Cioffi was transported from the scene by Cameron County Ambulance to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Police said the Emporium fire department assisted at the scene.
