No injuries were reported following a report of a residential structure fire early Sunday morning in the 1200 block of Main Street.
According to Derrick City Fire Chief James Kelley, the Derrick City Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched for a working residential structure at 12:57 a.m. Sunday morning at 1222 E. Main St. McKean County Department of Emergency Services alerted that the caller stated her front porch was on fire, with fire spreading to the inside.
Assistant Chief Mike Scrivo was the first on scene and reported a single family residential structure with fire showing on the front porch and smoke throughout the structure. Kelley arrived shortly thereafter and established East Main Street Command. Engines 112 and 113 arrived at the scene, as well as Rescue 111 and Utility 115. Bradford Township Volunteer Fire Department and City of Bradford Fire Department were on standby at their stations for Station 11.
“The crew from Engine 113 used a single 1 ¾-inch handline to quickly knock the fire out and then advanced into the structure,” explained Kelley. “An engine from Limestone, N.Y. was requested to the scene to assist with ventilation and overhaul.”
The fire was contained to the front porch and a single bedroom, according to Kelley. All occupants were safely evacuated and no injuries were reported.
All units returned to their respective stations by 2:25 a.m.
An investigation conducted by the fire department and Foster Township Police Department ruled the fire accidental in nature, with the determination being discarded cigarette butts and careless smoking. The damage to the residence was estimated at approximately $15,000.
