APPRECIATION: The Era’s Smethport correspondent Fran De Lancey is back home in Smethport, and wanted to pass along his thanks to all the folks who have wished him well during his recent health issues.

“My son and his family and I truly appreciate the cards, prayers, phone calls and other acts of kindness from relatives, friends, neighbors and co-workers while I was a patient at UPMC Hillman Cancer Center in Pittsburgh and since my return home,” Fran said.

“I’m taking daily medication and am anxious to get back to work as the Era’s Smethport correspondent,” he said.

Fran and his son, Andy De Lancey, were truly touched by the outpouring of support.

WREN: A Port Allegany woman called Tuesday to disagree with an assertion in Saturday’s column.

She disagreed that Carolina wrens are an “uncommon sight.”

“We have Carolina wrens all year long,” she told us.

Do any of our other readers have wrens who hang around their yards? Have you seen any other interesting birds lately? We’d love to hear about it.

WORLD WAR II MUSEUM: The Eldred World War II Museum is closed, as are other museums in our area. However, for those who have Facebook, the museum staff is posting a photo each day of the new exhibits.

Check out their Facebook page for photos of German Paratrooper helmets, a US Army dress jacket and a new Pacific Theater display, to name a few.
