An Elkland, Tioga County, man is in jail after being accused of forcibly entering a Hector Township, Potter County residence on Thursday.
Tommy J. Causer, Jr., 48, is charged with two counts each of attempt-robbery-threat of immediate serious injury and attempt-robbery-threat to commit second or third-degree felony, and one count of burglary, all first-degree felonies; criminal trespass and burglary, second-degree felonies; criminal trespass and two counts of theft by unlawful taking, third-degree felonies; resisting arrest, a second-degree misdemeanor; possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor; and summary criminal mischief.
According to Coudersport-based state police, about 7:30 a.m. on Thursday, troopers received a report of a burglary in progress at 5025 Phoenix Run Road, Hector Township. At the scene, they learned that Causer used force to enter an occupied home.
Troopers chased Causer, following his footprints in the snow and finding him on a neighboring property “attempting to commit additional offenses,” police stated.
Police did not state if Causer used a weapon in the alleged robbery.
Police initially reported that Causer will be arraigned on the charges when he is released from UPMC Cole for treatment of self-inflicted injuries.
Court records indicate that he was arraigned Saturday afternoon before District Judge Annette Easton and committed to Potter County in lieu of $200,000 bail.
Officials did not indicate that anyone else was hurt.
Police identified the alleged victims as Lee Frederic Mitchell and Valerie Jeannette Mitchell, both of Westfield, and Lawrence Edward Pilot of West Grove.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Feb. 28 before District Judge Christopher Kalacinski. No attorney is listed for Causer.
