Bradford man waives hearing on aggravated assault allegations
A Bradford man accused of grabbing a teen by the throat waived a preliminary hearing Wednesday before District Judge Richard Luther.
Curtis J. Deitz, 39, is charged with aggravated assault, a first-degree felony; strangulation, a second-degree felony; two counts of endangering the welfare of children, third-degree felonies; two counts each of recklessly endangering another person and simple assault, second-degree misdemeanors; and two summaries.
According to the criminal complaint, at 5:48 a.m. Jan. 5, Foster Township Police were dispatched to Deitz’s residence for a report of a domestic dispute that was physical. When police arrived, Deitz had left the home and walked into the woods.
A witness told police that Deitz made accusations against a 16-year-old girl and a 14-year-old boy, then “made aggressive moves towards” the girl’s mother. The girl stepped in front of him and told Deitz not to go after her mom. Deitz grabbed the girl by the throat and threw her to the ground, the complaint stated.
While the mother was trying to get Deitz away from the girl, the girl said she was going to call the police. Deitz tried to get the phone away from the girl, and, during the ensuing struggle, he shoved the mother into a stand, breaking it, and stiff-armed the mother’s throat, court records indicated.
Deitz is incarcerated in lieu of $50,000 bail.
Misdemeanor crash charges against Rixford man withdrawn
Misdemeanor charges and some summary charges filed in 2019 against a Rixford man related to an alleged crash on July 23 have been withdrawn.
The case against John Jay F. Rhodes Jr., 37, has been moved to a non-traffic case in which is charged with a single summary count of driving while operating privilege is suspended or revoked.
Withdrawn were charges of accidents involving death or personal injury and accident involving damage of an attended vehicle/property, misdemeanors; and summary charges of failure to notify police of an accident with injury or death and failure to notify police of an accident with damage to a vehicle.
