Lady Hubbers edge CC in OT; O-E, NoPo win

EMPORIUM — Smethport and Cameron County need to get together more often.

For the second time this season, the North Tier League matchup between the two schools went down to the wire — this time needing an extra period — and again it was the Lady Hubbers coming out victorious.

Outscoring the Lady Red Raiders 7-2 in overtime, Smethport won 35-30 to complete the competitive season sweep over Cameron County on Wednesday.

The game was nearly won at the end of regulation, with the Red Raiders (8-10, 6-7) getting a good look from 3-point range and also having a chance on the putback, too.

But the shots didn’t go, and in overtime, “(Sabrinna) Tanner put us on her back,” according to Smethport head coach Chad Goodman, by scoring six of the team’s seven points, including four at the free-throw line.

Tanner also hit the game-winning shot with 4.8 seconds to go in Smethport’s 30-29 win over Cameron County earlier this month.

Tanner finished with a game-high 13 for the Lady Hubbers (8-10, 6-8) and teammate Erin Herzog was also in double figures with 10.

But Goodman credited the defense MyKayla Deyarmin (six points) played on Cameron County star Kaelee Bresslin.

“I loved the defensive effort of MyKayla. She had the tough matchup of defending Bresslin in a box-and-1 and triangle-and-2,” Goodman said of the gameplan. “To hold Bresslin to 11 points in pretty outstanding on her part.”

Bresslin was the only Lady Red Raider in double figures, with teammate Morgan Lorenzo adding six and Reggie Goodrow five.
