Name the Rover: There is still time to vote for the name for NASA’s newest Rover. Visit https://mars.nasa.gov/mars2020/participate/name-the-rover/ and click on one of the nine finalists.

Over 28,000 essays were received from students to name the Rover.

Finalists in Grades K-4 were the names Promise, Endurance and Tenacity. Meanwhile, finalists in Grades 5-8 were Clarity, Vision and Perseverance and the finalists for Grades 9-12 were Ingenuity, Courage and Fortitude.

So far, 190,000 votes have been cast in the United States, more than 22,000 in Turkey and 9,500 in the United Kingdom. Residents of Canada and India have each submitted 7,000 votes on the potential name, while Romanians have cast 6,800 votes and Germans have cast 5,000 votes.

The voting will be considered as part of NASA’s naming process. The official name for the Rover will be announced in March 2020.

Love is in the air: The US Department of the Interior is asking for people to share their love stories before Valentine’s Day. According to officials, “America’s public lands are the perfect backdrop to a great love story. We’re getting ready for our annual Valentine’s Day video, and we need your help. Send your videos and photos of your weddings, proposals and special moments with your significant other in national parks, wildlife refuges and other public lands to newmedia@ios.doi.gov.”

Those submitting these special memories are asked to remove watermarks, list the location and submit videos and photos no later than Feb. 7. Those chosen will be featured in a special Valentine’s Day video.

Last year’s video was three minutes long and titled “Love American Style: Happy Valentine’s Day!” and can be seen on YouTube.
