ULYSSES — Trailing by one with 6.7 seconds to go, Otto-Eldred’s Braden Maholic sank a three-pointer to lift his Terrors to a nail-biting 63-61 North Tier League victory at Northern Potter Wednesday night.
O-E (9-5, 7-3) had initially grabbed a 25-7 lead after the first quarter thanks in large part to a blistering start from long range. The Terrors drilled six of their eight 3-pointers in the quarter.
But Northern Potter (6-9, 3-8) rallied back into the game, drawing to within 38-22 at halftime and then 48-42 after the third quarter.
Then, in the fourth, the Panthers managed to retake the lead, and held a 61-60 advantage before Maholic’s decisive trey. After Maholic gave the Terrors the lead, NoPo came back down and got a few looks at the basket, but couldn’t manage to sink any of them.
“We got off to a slow start, and O-E was 6-for-6 (from 3-point range) at one point in the first quarter. That dug us a hole, and we had issues on the (offensive) end,” NoPo coach Derek Erway said. “We put the press on and started getting back into it… I’m proud of the way we fought back. It was better than the last time we faced them (a 67-31 O-E win), that’s for sure.”
Jake Merry led O-E with 20 points, which came by way of four triples and an 8-for-8 night at the charity stripe. Maholic scored 12 points for the Terrors, while Cole Sebastian added 11.
NoPo was paced by 26 points from Carter Anderson and a personal season-high 16 points from Ryan Langworthy, who hit three shots from downtown.
Both teams had foul troubles on the night, as O-E was whistled for 21 fouls and NoPo for 20.

Port Allegany 56, Austin 35
PORT ALLEGANY — Howie Stuckey outscored visiting Austin all by himself as the Gators senior poured in 36 points to help Port A earn a critical league victory.
Of Stuckey’s 36, 19 of them came in the second half — including a nine-point spurt towards the end of the third quarter that helped Port Allegany (6-9, 5-5) pull away from Austin.
“Late in the third quarter with right around 40 seconds to go, Austin got within nine,” Port Allegany head coach Kyle Babcock explained. “Then Howie hit a 3, got a steal, hit the layup and got another steal after that and got an and-1.
“That all took place in a matter of 30 seconds and it extended the game for us and helped us close the game.”
In addition to Stuckey’s performance — which included seven 3-pointers — Ty Guilds had six points and Carter Moses added five for Port A.
The Gators were without senior starter Jordan Card in the game, but still managed to play stellar defense against the Panthers on the other end of the court.
Port A limited Austin (8-7, 5-6) to just four made field goals and 11 points in the first half.
“We played a 3-2 defense,” Babcock noted. “It worked very well. We were trying to limit Jackson Glover and even though he got his 21, we did a pretty good job containing the rest of the guys.”
Glover did finish with a team-high 21 points, but 10 of those came in the fourth quarter with the game out of reach.
Parker Glover added nine points and three assists for the Panthers.

“Coudersport is a good team. I think we did a good job defensively for the most part, except at times we let them get out in transition,” said OV coach Nick Goss. “I think our ball movement was good tonight, especially from the last time we played Coudersport. Our guys felt more comfortable tonight, and I was proud of the way we competed.”

Cameron County 44, St. Marys 39
EMPORIUM — Trailing by five points at the half, Cameron County head coach Mark Guido wanted his team to put an emphasis on better defense after the intermission.
His Red Raiders promptly responded by allowing just 15 points from the Dutch over the final two quarters as they came from behind to close out a sixth consecutive victory.
Still down by three entering the fourth quarter, Cameron County (11-2) made some crucial free throws and outscored St. Marys 15-7 in the final eight minutes. Dino Brown went 7-for-7 at the charity stripe and finished with a game-high 15 points as well as nine rebounds.
“We were a bit undisciplined defensively in the first half but held them to just 15 in the second and that was a big difference,” Guido said. “We were able to grind it out and that’s a big win for us.”
Caden Beldin added 13 points for Cameron County, and Hayden Brown hit the Red Raiders’ only two 3-pointers to finish with 10.
For St. Marys (4-10), Cahil Parish had a team-high 13 and Nick Catalone knocked down three 3-pointers for nine points.
