Bradford grapplers fall to DuBois, 60-15

DUBOIS — All things considered, Jamey Miller was pleased with how his Bradford High wrestlers performed on Thursday night in DuBois.

Despite losing to the Beavers 60-15, Miller was satisfied with how his “young, inexperienced guys went up against all that experience on the other team.”

Bradford scored just two contested victories on the evening with Lucas Laktash (126 pounds) winning by technical fall over DuBois’ Cadin Delaney, 16-0, in 4:12. Then, the Owls’ Derek Sunafrank major decisioned Ryan White, 12-4, at 182 pounds.

Andrew Krainz also picked up a forfeit win for Bradford at 220.

In addition to the two contested victories, Miller was most impressed with how Dakota Panighetti, who is in his first season wrestling, hung with DuBois’ Ed Scott — one of the top wrestlers in District 9 — at 170 pounds.

“(Scott) went down and wrestled the Clarion Open in the preseason and took second place against some Division-I wrestlers. He’s legit,” Miller said. “Dakota never wrestled a day in his life until this year but he made him earn it.”

Miller also highlighted Devan Poe’s match at 106, where the sophomore went toe-to-toe with DuBois’ Gage Sonnie before losing via fall in 4:59.

“All of these inexperienced kids are going in the right direction for us and they have to keep their work ethic going. Can’t let all the losses get to you, but it’s a grind mentally.”

At the junior high level, DuBois topped the Owls, 65-15. Joe Carrie earned a win by fall for the Owls in 3:55 and Angel Dominguez won by decision, 6-2.

Bradford returns to the mat against Kane at home on Tuesday.
