ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. — The St. Bonaventure University women’s basketball team fell to UMass, 62-52, Wednesday evening at the Reilly Center.
Dajah Logan led the Bonnies with 13 points and Jurnee President added 11.
UMass (12-3, 2-0 Atlantic 10) opened the second half on an 11-4 run to increase its lead to 12 points with 6:52 remaining in the third quarter. The Minutewomen outscored the Bonnies 23-13 in the third period to pull away from the Bonnies, taking a 16-point lead into the fourth.
From there, UMass controlled the game, not allowing the Bonnies (3-12, 0-2) back within single digits over the final 10 minutes. Defensively, UMass held the Bonnies without a basket for nearly six minutes in the fourth quarter to maintain the lead.
Logan nailed a three-pointer and Deja Francis converted a layup in the closing seconds to bring the game back within 10, 62-52.
For the second straight contest, the Bonnies saw themselves down six heading into the locker room for halftime after a back and forth two quarters. UMass took a 29-23 lead into the break after the Bonnies held them to 35.5 percent shooting from the floor.
Five out of the 11 made shots for the Minutewomen were from beyond the arc during in the first half, helping the visitors build a lead early.
Senior Hailey Leidel tallied a game-high 22 points to lead the Minutewomen.
