Bradford drops non-league game to Warren; Smethport, Austin win

WARREN — Bradford couldn’t overcome an early 12-point deficit in a 47-32 loss to Warren in non-league play Saturday.

The Owls (5-2) trailed 21-9 after the first quarter and 27-17 at halftime, before trimming Warren’s lead to 34-29 entering the fourth.

However, the Dragons held Bradford to just three points in the game’s final eight minutes to hold on for the win.

“We dug ourselves a hole early on,” Bradford head coach Brian Hobbs said. “We made some adjustments defensively that slowed Warren down a little bit, but it was too big of a hole early on. Compound that with 20 turnovers, and we just didn’t play as cleanly as we have early this season.

“Warren did a great job of making shots, too. They shot pretty well.”

Indeed, Warren was 20-for-48 from the field (42%) while Bradford was just 12-for-37 (32%). The Dragons also out-rebounded Bradford 32-26.

Warren’s Ben Berdine and Bradford’s Tyler Gigliotti each scored 17 points to lead all scorers. The Dragons also picked up 13 points from Thomas Bablak.

Bradford’s Evan Schmidt scored eight points. Cam Austin (4 points) led Bradford in rebounding with five, while Peyton Manion and Gigliotti each had four boards.

The Owls host St. Marys Friday for a D9 League matchup.
