Coudy, Cameron Co. win big to stay perfect in NTL play

GALETON — It was just another day at the office for the Coudersport boys basketball team.

For the third time in as many North Tier League games, the Falcons scored at least 70 points en route to a 79-24 drilling of Galeton Thursday night to remain unbeaten.

The Falcons (4-0, 3-0) scored a whopping 72 points in the game’s first 24 minutes before resting their starters for much of the fourth quarter.

Coudersport enjoyed a balanced scoring attack as four players registered in double figures, including a game-high 17 from Hayden Keck. Kolby VanWhy (15 points), Dillon Keglovits (14) and Daniel Frame (12) also contributed for a Falcons team that hit 11 3-pointers.

Frame, VanWhy and Jaheim Dickens each had two makes from long distance for Coudy, which allowed Galeton to make just one trey of its own on the other end.

Dillon Keglovits had nine rebounds for Coudy.

    Ty Stover had a team-high 10 points for the Tigers (0-4, 0-2).

The Falcons return to the court Saturday in the IAABO Tournament at St. Bonaventure University against Olean High School.

    Cameron County 72, Austin 36

EMPORIUM — Caden Beldin posted a third consecutive double-double with 21 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Red Raiders to a dominant victory over Austin.

Beldin had nine of his points in the first quarter as part of a 21-5 Cameron County advantage after eight minutes.

Teammate Dino Brown was right behind him with 20 tallies — including 14 in the first half — as well as two 3-pointers.

Brown also added six steals and five assists to his statline.

But for as strong as the offense was on Thursday, Cameron County coach Mark Guido credited the defense of his team, and guard Dylan Guisto, for securing the win.

“(Dylan) did his usual stellar job of guarding the other teams’ best player,” the Cameron County coach said. “He was on Jackson Glover and he did an outstanding job. It’s always nice to have somebody you can say ‘go shut that kid down’ and he’s able to go out there and do it.”

Indeed, Glover, who had been averaging nearly 20 points per game, was held to just 10 against the Red Raiders.

Joseph Glover led Austin (3-3, 2-2) with 14 points.

    Northern Potter 54, Smethport 47

ULYSSES — After scoring a season-low seven points against Otto-Eldred on Tuesday, Northern Potter’s Carter Anderson exploded for 25 to help his Panthers rally past Smethport.

Trailing by two points entering the fourth quarter, Northern Potter (3-3, 1-3) scored 20 points over the final eight minutes to help snap a three-game losing skid.

“We just kept plugging away,” Northern Potter coach Derek Erway said. “Our energy was high — maybe not so much in the third quarter — but we got it back up, hit some shots, made them miss and then got the rebounds.”

Northern Potter jumped ahead to a 20-11 lead after the first quarter and was up by six at halftime, but led by Layne Shall (13 points), Noah Lent (12) and Richie McDowell (11) the Hubbers were able to temporarily rally back.

But some key makes from Anderson — who went 6-for-8 from the free-throw line and added 11 rebounds — helped NoPo bounce back.

“This was a complete and total turnaround from the Otto-Eldred game. For him and for the team,” Erway said.

Tre Slawson added 13 points for the Panthers and teammate Ryan Langworthy poured in eight points and five steals.

Smethport fell to 2-3 overall and 2-2 in NTL play with the loss.

    Non-league

    Bolivar-Richburg (N.Y.) 62, Oswayo Valley 57

SHINGLEHOUSE — After losing each of its previous three games by at least 30 points, the Green Wave hung with Bolivar-Richburg but struggled to make enough shots in a high-scoring fourth quarter.

Noah Wichert almost had a triple-double for Oswayo Valley (0-6), posting 24 points, 15 rebounds and 7 blocks to nearly send the Green Wave to their first win of the year.

“I loved the fight in our team,” OV coach Nick Goss said. “We came out with some hunger and Bolivar had two really good guards that do well getting into the lane. I think free throws decided this game.”

Both teams struggled at the charity stripe in the game, with Bolivar-Richburg (4-3) missing 9 free throws and OV with eight.

Those two guards that Goss admitted gave his team troubles — Riley Danaher and Landon Danaher — combined to tally 43 of B-R’s 62 points in the game.

Cadyn Black was also in double figures for Oswayo Valley with 10.
