Six Port Allegany matmen earned pins on the night as the Gators defeated Bradford, 57-19.

Port A’s (2-0) Bryent Johnson pinned Devin Poe in the 113-pound class in 1:41, and Scott Fuller (120) pinned Bradford’s (0-2) Quinn Lasher in 54 seconds.

Eli Petruzzi (138) also won via pin for Port A with a win over Bradford’s Elijah Fitton in 2:59, while teammate Ethan DeBockler (160) topped Bradford’s Ashton Smith by fall at the 4:36 mark.

Derek Kallenborn (195) and Justin Young (220) also won by pin for the Gators, and each in under a minute.

The Gators also picked up a win from Braedon Johnson (126), who decisioned Lucas Laktash, 6-1.

Both Johnson and Laktash earned praises from Bradford head coach Jamey Miller.

“Braedon has been wrestling unbelievably well for the last several years,” Miller said. “Lucas came in and hung right with him, though.”

For Bradford, Brett Thompson (145) narrowly decisioned Montgomery Tanner, 3-2, and Drake Hayden (152) pinned Taro Tanaka at the 4:56 mark.

Derek Sunafrank (182) also posted a win for the Owls with a 10-2 major decision over Dalton Distrola, and Dylan Mazzone (HWT) pinned Hunter Tanner in 19 seconds.

“I can’t complain about how any of the kids wrestled,” Miller said. “There were some mistakes, but we’ve got all these kids that only have a year or two of experience. They wrestled really tough against some legitimate kids that are going to be vying for AA District titles.

“They hung in there tough, but unfortunately that lack of experience cost them and they got pinned.”

Miller also expressed his appreciation to the fans who turned out in large numbers for the match.

“They’re supporting these kids, and the support has meant a lot to us. It’s motivating the kids to work harder,” he said. “And the kids want to get better and give these people something to really cheer for. It’s nice to see everybody getting behind us.”

Port Allegany will take part in the Salamanca Tournament this weekend, while Bradford is off until Dec. 27, when it travels to the Tunkhannock Tournament.
