Port A boys edge Austin; Coudy wins by 64

AUSTIN — Austin suffered its first North Tier League setback in a 42-36 home loss to Port Allegany on Monday night.

The game was nip and tuck throughout, as no team led by more than two after a quarter of play until Port A (2-3, 1-1) finished the fourth with the six-point margin of victory.

The Panthers (3-2, 2-1) picked up a game-high 13 points from Jackson Glover, who has scored in double-digits in each game for Austin so far this year. He added four assists and seven rebounds on the night.

Also for Austin, which made four 3-pointers on the night, Skylar Crawford scored 11 points and pulled down six rebounds, while Joseph Glover added eight boards.

Port Allegany, which ended a three-game losing skid with the win, was led by Jordan Card and Howie Stuckey, who each scored 12 points.

The Gators visit Kane Wednesday, while Austin travels to Cameron County Thursday.

The Rams (3-2) trailed Smethport 7-6 after the first quarter, but held the Hubbers (1-2) to just four points in the second quarter en route to a 22-11 halftime lead.

“The second quarter, we just couldn’t make shots,” said Smethport head coach Jay Acker. “We had opportunities, they just didn’t go in. (Johnsonburg) extended their lead, and it was tough coming back from that.”

In the second half, the Rams outpaced Smethport 31-17 to grow their lead to the eventual 25-point margin.

Green’s 16 points were a game high, and Gabe Watts added 12 for Jburg, which snapped a two-game losing streak with the victory.

“Johnsonburg is really good. Green is a really good player,” Acker said. He later added, “Turnovers really hurt us tonight, too. There were a lot of unforced errors.”

The Hubbers were led by Layne Shall’s 10 points. Connor Alfieri added eight.
