A Mount Jewett man is in McKean County Jail awaiting a preliminary hearing on allegations that he was in possession of methamphetamine, fentanyl and a large amount of drug paraphernalia in a traffic stop in November.
Chad Allen Ginkel, 38, is charged with possession with intent to deliver drugs, a felony; three counts of possession of drugs, misdemeanors; 52 counts of possession of paraphernalia, misdemeanors; and several traffic summary offenses.
According to court records, at 11:35 a.m. Nov. 20, a Lewis Run-based state trooper was parked on Roberts Street in Bradford when he saw a vehicle turn onto High Street without using a turn signal. The trooper initiated a traffic stop. Ginkel, the driver, was unable to produce a registration or a current insurance card. When a second trooper approached the vehicle, he saw a baggie of suspected meth in the left breast pocket of Ginkel’s jacket. The troopers asked Ginkel to step out of the car, and told him they had seen the baggie. Ginkel confirmed that the bag contained meth, the criminal complaint read.
A Bradford City Police officer arrived, and together the officers searched Ginkel’s vehicle. Inside they found a cigarette pack containing three fentanyl packs, which Ginkel had told them was present, along with several other pills. A large bag of suspected meth was found on the floor of the vehicle in the front, and in the back found a camera bag containing different sized baggies, various containers, knives, a shipping bag, a bag containing drug residue, rolling papers, a scale with residue on it, a container of suspected marijuana wax and a bag with marijuana residue, the complaint stated.
A search of Ginkel wielded a total of $1,195 and a bag of suspected cocaine. Police said throughout the incident, Ginkel repeated that he had screwed up and knew he needed to go to rehab, the complaint read.
Ginkel was arraigned last month before District Judge Rich Luther. A preliminary hearing in the case is scheduled for 1 p.m. Dec. 18 before Luther. At an appearance in Central Court on Thursday, Ginkel’s bail was reduced from $50,000 to $20,000. He remains incarcerated.
He is represented by the McKean County Public Defender’s office.
