Ed Rose and the Kane Historic Preservation Society are offering something this Christmas season that will interest anyone who enjoys tidbits of local history.
In December, the first run of a new book, “Citizen Kane PA: Little-Known Facts and Forgotten Memories from the Hilltop,” will be available. The book is written by Rose, a Kane native and author.
“More than 50 brief, bite-sized nuggets of local history have been compiled from Rose’s popular weekly broadcast of the same name that began airing on Kane station WXZY FM 101.7 Radio in 2018,” a press release on the book stated.
Proceeds from book sales will benefit the Kane Historic Preservation Society and its mission of preserving and sharing Kane’s unique history.
According to Rose, the encouragement from his radio listeners and support from the Kane Historic Preservation Society helped to make the book a reality.
“My love of Kane and many years of research have proved to be successful weekly broadcast on WXZY radio,” he said. “The historic society has teamed up many unique photographs and articles to enhance the stories for the reader.”
Readers will find “a funny, light and sometimes poignant and surprising look into Kane’s past” in the books pages under sections with titles such as “Hilltop Heroes and Local Legends,” “Memorable People,” “Brushes with Fame,” “Golden Memories” and “News and Events,” according to the release.
The release calls the book “the perfect holiday gift for current and former Kane residents, and surrounding neighbors, who have a yen for local days of yore.”
Rose’s book not only brings together interesting local stories, it also sheds light on tales not widely known, according to Dick Bly, chairman of the historic society.
Bly said, “It has been a pleasure working with Ed on this publication. He has documented a number of stories that we as local historians were unaware of.”
Bly said the anticipated arrival of the first run of books they ordered is by Dec. 13 — just in time for the annual Christmas party at the depot in Kane.
The 11th annual Christmas Open House at the Depot is slated for 6 to 8 p.m. Dec. 13. Tyler Calkins and Jim Copeland will perform live music.
Pre-order a copy of “Citizen Kane PA” by stopping at Kane Lumber & Fuel in Kane, contacting the historical society at info@kanedepot.org, or calling the Depot at 837-8752 and leaving a message.
