PORT ALLEGANY — The Seneca Highlands Career & Technical Center hosted its annual open house Nov. 14 with a showcase of demonstrations and staff on hand to discuss the 10 trade shops.
The facility provides educational opportunities to high school students from 10 school districts.
Attendees were able to sign in and were entered to win door prizes created by the SHCTC, including a dog house and engraved cutting boards. There were over 250 individuals in attendance.
The Culinary Arts Program participants provided a frosty surprise with their snowman ice sculpture, as well as a range of treats for those that visited to sample. Students presented live demonstrations as they prepared these treats for the visitors. These treats included pizza, breaded mushrooms, cake, apple strudel, crepes, canape, French bread and a variety of pastas.
During the open house, Northern Potter Education Council was available to discuss what they do and offer.
Also in attendance was Jeanne Morley, a representative from the Northern Pennsylvania Regional College, who was available to answer questions regarding opportunities that NPRC had to offer. NPRC offers customized training and affordable credits for adult learners looking to advance their career. The college offers a four-year associate degree and/or a four-year workforce development program.
