A Tuesday morning accident involving a tractor trailer led to minor injuries for the driver and closed Route 59 for several hours.
First responders were dispatched at 10:31 a.m. to a call of an overturned tractor trailer.
According to Lewis Run-based state police, Seth Darrah, 50, of Norwich, N.Y., was operating a 2017 Freightliner, heading west on Route 59 when the tractor trailer traveled onto the north berm of the roadway. The tractor trailer continued off the road into a ditch and turned onto the passenger side. The truck also hit a utility pole before coming to rest on its passenger side, facing west.
Police reports indicate Darrah, who was wearing a seatbelt, was trapped inside the cab of the tractor trailer and had to be freed by emergency responders. Darrah was transported to Bradford Regional Medical Center and treated for injuries, according to police.
The trailer was hauling boards, which were scattered across the road and the berms.
Chris Boser, assistant chief with Lafayette Township Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department, confirmed that firefighters from Lafayette, Lewis Run VFD and Bradford Township VFD, tow companies and Penelec workers responded.
Route 59 was closed at the intersection with U.S. Route 219, and Bradford Township Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to close Route 59 at its intersection with Route 770.
Penelec crews had to replace a pole, and cleanup was required at the scene.
Fire crews were clear, with the exception of fire police, as of 3:25 p.m. Penelec estimated having the road re-opened by 6 p.m., according to Boser.
Police reports indicate Darrah was cited for failing to maintain his vehicle on roadways laned for travel. The truck was removed from the scene by a towing company.
