The Big 30 Charities Classic has a new leader.
Bob South was elected president of the organization at a restructuring meeting earlier this month.
South, a Bradford native, has been involved with the game since its inception in 1974. He most recently served as secretary and has also been in charge of coordinating the queens and cheerleaders for the annual game.
“Basically we are going to continue the way we’ve been going,” South said. “I think we have a good committee and we want to do as well if not better next year.
“I feel like I have the support of the community and everybody is happy.”
South heads to the president’s position after Frank Williams stepped down from the post after six years.
Joining South on the board will be: James Giordano (vice president), Brian Abers (secretary) and Jim Masone (treasurer).
The Big 30 Charities Classic is coming off of one of its most successful fundraising campaigns after raising over $43,000 in 2019.
The money is distributed to organizations and individuals across the Pennsylvania counties of McKean, Cameron, Elk, Potter and Warren, and the New York counties of Allegany, Cattaraugus and Chautauqua.
The Big 30 Charities Classic has distributed well over $1.6 million during its existence.
The 46th annual running of the game was held Aug. 3 in Bradford’s Parkway Field with New York and Pennsylvania playing to a 27-27 tie. The Empire State holds a 22-21-3 advantage over Pennsy.
