KANE — The Allegheny String Quartet will present their program, “Autumn Fugues,” at the Thomas L. Kane Memorial Chapel at 7 p.m. Friday.
The program will include Mendelssohn’s scarcely performed “Four Pieces for String Quartet,” which the program derives its name from, containing two contrasting fugue movements among a rich, singing first movement and Midsummer Night-esque Scherzo.
Performers will be Cody Hiller, Joanna Nordlund, Katie Ferrie, all on violin, and Marian Byard on cello. Hiller performed at the Thomas L. Kane Memorial Chapel last year.
The “Four Pieces for String Quartet” is a hidden gem in Mendelssohn’s quartet repertoire. Also on the program will be Dvorak’s famous “American” String Quartet. Using American folk songs and spirituals as its musical base, the “American” quartet brings audiences to fall scenes in the country.
A freewill donation will be taken at the door and during intermission; please consider supporting your local classical musicians.
