Eldred man to serve jail sentence for assault

SMETHPORT — An Eldred man was sentenced Thursday in McKean County Court to a jail term for assault allegations.

Johnny R. Blackwell III, 20, will serve 90 days to 23 ½ months in McKean County Jail with credit for 100 days of time served for a charge of simple assault and a summary charge. On Oct. 3, Blackwell pleaded guilty to allegations that on July 16, he hurt a man who was aged 60 or older by striking him in the face multiple times.

Also in court, Chad C. Reed, 28, of Smethport, will serve three months to one year in state prison with credit for eight days of time served for charges in two cases. He’s charged in one case with resisting arrest and in the other with two counts of DUI-controlled substance, possession of a small amount of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and a summary charge.

Reed pleaded guilty Oct. 17 to allegations that on Jan. 25, he fought and resisted two Bradford City police officers who were trying to take him into custody; physical force was required to overcome Reed. Then, on June 24, Reed drove under the influence of marijuana, amphetamines, MDMA and clonazepam.

Jennifer G. Carpenter, 34, of Crosby, will serve four days to one year in Mckean County Jail and one year of probation for charges of theft by unlawful taking. Carpenter has already paid full restitution of $2,110. On Sept. 5, Carpenter pleaded guilty to allegation that from May 9-22, she took $370 in cash from Herzog’s Valley Store.

Rhonda L. Hanes, 20, of Bradford, will serve 60 days to five months in McKean County Jail and 18 months of concurrent program for a charge of access device fraud. She will also pay $1,223.01 in restitution to the victim. She pleaded guilty Sept. 19 to allegations that between April 8-25, Hanes used another woman’s debit card at different locations in the county to obtain $1,223.01 in property and/or services.

Adam B. Spears, 28, of Allegany, N.Y., will serve 90 days to five years in McKean County Jail for charges of DUI-controlled substance, possession of a small amount of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and summary charges.

Kelly M. Smith, 24, of Limestone, N.Y., will serve six months to two years in McKean County Jail with credit for 134 days of time served; while she will serve time in the county, supervision will be by state parole. She is charged with DUI-general impairment and a summary charge.

Zackary D. Snyder, 27, of Roulette, will serve six months in the Intermediate Punishment Program and one year of concurrent probation for charges in two cases. He’s charged in one with DUI-controlled substance and summary charges and in the other with possession of drug paraphernalia.

John N. Krist, 38, of Eldred, will serve six months in the Intermediate Punishment Program for a charge of DUI-general impairment.

Dakota R. Allen, 22, of Bradford, pleaded guilty to a charge of retail theft. According to Assistant District Attorney Bridget Murphy, on Sept. 29, Allen took items from Walmart including a phone, headphones and Mountain Dew. Allen will be sentenced Nov. 21.

Jessica N. Courteau, 28, of Bradford, will serve one year of probation for a charge of possession of a controlled substance.

Tyler M. Carlson, 25, will serve six months of probation for charges of DUI-general impairment and a summary charge.

Gordon L. Eschrich, 35, of Mount Jewett, pleaded guilty to a charge of harassment. On Jan. 8, Eschrich communicated threatening or obscene words to another male, said Murphy. Eschrich will be sentenced Nov. 21.
