Sixteen competitive teams participated in the inaugural Scavenger Hunt, coordinated by Rising Leaders of Bradford (RISE), on Oct 4.
The event included a diverse range of teams from mom, dad, and kids, University of Pittsburgh at Bradford students, groups of RISE members and seniors. The various teams raced around Bradford, searching for clues and peculiar items.
Beth Seals, who participated as team “Stealthy Seals,” stated “It was a lot of fun and nothing we have seen done in the area.”
The Scavenger Hunt was segmented into three areas. The hunt included a list of questions — mostly focused on the history of Bradford, a list of items to “hunt down” and turn in, and visits to local sponsoring businesses to find business-specific answers. It was fun to see the business owners and many of their patrons/customers get into helping the various teams … or misleading them.
“This event reflects many of the pillars R.I.S.E. is being built upon,” said Lisa Boser Miller, Scavenger Hunt committee chair and advisor to the RISE board. “It was a lot of fun and helped draw people into our local businesses. The businesses and organizations were very supportive.”
There were 18 local sponsors for the event.
The money raised will help offset costs associated with the one-year RISE Anniversary (RISE-iversary) being planned for all RISE members and the public in January.
