DUKE CENTER — After giving up a quick touchdown to Otto-Eldred to start the game, Coudersport dominated the rest of the evening en route to a 73-12 District 9 Small School North victory Friday night. 

The Falcons (6-0, 3-0) got behind 6-0 on the fourth play of the game after Otto-Eldred (1-6, 1-3) scored on a 65-yard touchdown pass from Cole Sebastian to Cameron Magee. 

But it was all Coudy from there, as the Falcons put up the next 28 points before allowing O-E’s other score, and then scored the game’s final 45 points in the win. 

“You have to come back after that (quick score), and the guys did they. They came back,” said Coudersport head coach Tom Storey. “We had a little bit of a rough week (in practice), and a couple things happened, stuff like that, so we started slow. But the guys picked it up and did what they had to do.” 

Coudersport’s dominance came mostly on the ground, as the Falcons racked up 462 yards on 44 carries. Travis Gleason led the charge with 255 yards and three touchdowns on 17 carries, and quarterback Hayden Keck contributed 87 yards and a score on 10 carries. 

In addition, Kolby VanWhy ran for 82 yards and a pair of touchdowns on four carries. 

“The whole team worked well tonight,” Storey said. “The line opened things up, and gave us room to do what we had to do.” 

The Falcons threw the ball effectively, too, as Keck completed all five of his passes for 143 yards and a touchdown, which was a 58-yard deep strike to John Minor. 

Minor also returned the first kickoff of the second half 80 yards for a Falcon score, and the Coudy defense forced four Terror turnovers, including a 20-yard interception return for a touchdown by Dillon Keglovits. 

It wasn’t all perfect for the Falcons, though. Coudersport was penalized five times for 65 yards, and fumbled the ball twice — both times in the red zone. 

“We made it a little rough (on ourselves),” Storey said. “We had those fumbles in the red zone, but we’ll clean that up this week.” 

For O-E, which has now lost four straight games, the quick start and subsequent collapse was a familiar sight. The Terrors jumped out quickly against Redbank Valley and Bucktail before losing both games. 

“It’s been the same story all year, and that’s what I told our guys,” said Otto-Eldred head coach Troy Cook. “We came out, put a score on the board early, kind of hung in with them, and then at some point in time, we just wear down. I don’t know how to explain it. 

“We can hang for a while, and then it kind of gets away from us, we shoot ourselves in the foot and then it’s hard to recover.” 

There were plenty of self-inflicted wounds for the Terrors, to be sure. O-E had the four turnovers, but was also penalized 10 times for 95 yards.

The result was putting just 12 points on the board despite gaining 347 yards of offense on the night — by far the most Coudersport has given up in a game this season. 

Most of O-E’s production came by way of the pass. Quarterback Cole Sebastian completed 24 of his 38 passes for 311 yards and a pair of scores, but was picked off three times. 

Receivers Ethan Smith and Cameron Magee were the stars for the Terrors on the night. Magee hauled in seven catches for 148 yards and a 65-yard score, and Smith finished with 11 receptions for 135 yards and a 35-yard score. 

“They’re really our go-to guys. We’ve developed a pretty solid pass-blocking offensive line at this point, but we struggle moving the ball running, so we rely on the pass,” Cook said. “Ethan, Cole and Cam carry us, so if (opponents) pay attention to one guy, we’re lucky to have another guy to go with.” 

Coudersport faces its biggest test of the season next Saturday, as undefeated Redbank Valley pays a visit at Falcon Stadium. The Bulldogs stand at 7-0 on the season, and have posted back-to-back shutouts in wins over Smethport and Curwensville. 

“We’ve played all the same teams about the same, so it should end up being a good game,” Storey said. “This (win) gives the guys some momentum to go into this week, so we’ll work hard and clean some of this stuff up to get ready for Redbank.” 

O-E, meanwhile, visits 1-6 Curwensville next week, and then closes the season with home games against Sheffield and Cowanesque Valley. 

“We’ve really been playing a lot of young guys, and we’ve seen them improve in the last few games, so that’s something we’ll keep focusing on,” Cook said. “We have a three-game season now to finish out, and it’s about pride. So we’ll try to finish 3-0, and that’s our goal.”
