MJ2KB Trail Club
A the MJ2KB trail club’s recent meeting, the club discussed ongoing projects and events.
Members have added mileage signs to the Knox & Kane Rail Trail.
New projects coming up include a kiosk and bike repair station at the Mount Jewett trailhead. Trail club members will apply for grants in order to put down surface material on the trail section between U.S. Route 219 (Lantz Corners) and Mount Jewett. Also, future plans include a trailhead located at Route 219, near Lantz Corners.
Memorial bench donations have been coming in and the trail club has placed several benches along the rail trail. In addition, members will put a couple of picnic tables along the trail.
The trail club is having a bicycle “trail ride” at 5 p.m. Oct. 9. Those who can ride the rail trail from Mount Jewett to Kinzua Bridge State Park and back can meet the group at the Mount Jewett Trailhead and ride along.
A work day is scheduled for 10 a.m. Oct. 12. Anyone interested in helping clear debris, remove branches and limbs from the trail, should meet at the parking lot or area near the emergency entrance off of Peterson Street in Mount Jewett. Water, gloves and tools will be provided.
The club is looking for a large area to pile railroad ties and will offer them to consumers for free, with consumers picking them up. Anyone interested in used railroad ties can contact Carolyn Stroup at 814-778-5170.
The trail club’s 50/50 drawing will be at the monthly meeting at 7 p.m. on Oct. 24 at the Mount Jewett Memorial Library.

Sheryl Carls, Bev Roberts and Pattie Brink attended the 68th annual ADDC Convention in Kansas City, Mo., from Sept 25-28 at the Marriott Country Club Plaza.
Forty-one clubs were in attendance from the U.S. and Canada. Some of the field trips were Magellan Pipeline, WW1 Museum, Ethanol Plant, port of KC/ Steamboat Arabia and Union Station. Millbank Works was also a field trip; the company make metal electrical boxes located on the outside of homes. Attendees toured Hallmark Cards, which is where they were first made. The went to the American Jazz Museum, which also included their famous barbecue buffet. The city is famous for its many different fountains, which they saw while riding on a trolley car around the city.
Luncheons and dinners included various speakers from Petroleum Alliance of Oklahoma, Kansas Independent Oil and Gas Association and speakers from the local club. Various members received different awards.
The next convention will be held May 2020 in Pittsburgh.
