Anyone who loves games is welcome to learn about chess or improve their game at the Bradford Knights’ Chess Club Oct. 2 or Nov. 6.
The group will meet both days at 6:30 p.m. at School Street Elementary School.
Players should register at the door. The club meets in the School Street Elementary cafeteria each Wednesday from 6:30-8:15 p.m.
All students in grades 3-12 are invited to join the scholastic chess program. The 29th annual Bradford Businessmen’s Chess League will begin Nov. 6 and run through Feb. 26. Adults are also welcome.
Many activities are scheduled, including pizza parties, matches and tournaments. The Pennsylvania State Scholastic Championships are scheduled for March 6-9. On Nov. 6, the group will hold its annual speed chess championship. The season will end Feb. 26 with a pizza party followed by awards.
Research continues to confirm the educational value that chess instruction has on cognitive development, critical thinking skills, and academic gains.
There is a fee. For additional information about joining the club or the educational benefits of chess, contact dr_ferguson@hotmail.com.
