Smethport woman going to jail for assault, endangering

SMETHPORT — A Smethport woman who was charged in two criminal cases — one for an assault and the other for reckless endangerment — was sentenced Thursday in McKean County Court to a term in jail.

Leslie D. Billyard, 42, will serve six to 22 months in McKean County Jail with credit for 98 days of time served and one year of consecutive probation. On Aug. 15, Billyard pleaded guilty in one case to a charge of aggravated assault, and she pleaded no contest in the other to a charge of recklessly endangering another person.

Billyard entered the plea to allegations that on April 7, while on a stretcher receiving medical treatment, she struck a nurse in the back of the head, causing pain to the nurse; Then, on July 18, Billyard, while intoxicated, tried to get a 14-year-old to jump out of a window with her to commit suicide.

Also in court, Scott A. Canfield Jr., 36, of Bradford, was sentenced to one year to 28 months in state prison with credit for 71 days of time served for charges in three cases. He’s charged in two of the cases with retail theft and in the third with flight to avoid apprehension and false identification to a law enforcement official. On Aug. 22, Canfield pleaded guilty to allegations that on June 14, he took two children’s tablet computers from Walmart worth about $158; on July 2, he took two hoverboards from Walmart worth about $296; and on July 4, during an investigation, he gave police officers a false name and date of birth, and he fled from them.

Steven L. Crabb Jr., 27, of Olean, N.Y., will serve 60 days to 23 ½ months in McKean County Jail with credit for 64 days of time served for terroristic threats and simple assault. Crabb pleaded guilty Aug. 29 to allegations that on Dec. 9, he grabbed a woman’s arm, pushed her through a doorway and threatened to kill her.

Nicholas I. Leonard, 30, of Kane, was sentenced to seven days to 18 months in McKean County Jail with credit for seven days of time served for a charge of simple assault. On Aug. 15, Leonard pleaded guilty to allegations that between Feb. 13-22, he picked up a woman by her arms and threw her to the ground, hurting her tailbone.

Leonard D. Windsor, 34, of Eldred, was sentenced to four days to 18 months in McKean County Jail with credit for four days of time served for a charge of theft by failure to make required disposition of funds. Windsor must also pay restitution of $1,235 to the Girl Scouts of Western Pennsylvania. Windsor pleaded guilty Aug. 8 to allegations that between Jan. 5 and March 5, he obtained Girl Scout cookies belonging to Girl Scouts Western Pennsylvania and treated them like his own, failing to make payment of $1,235 for them.

William T. Puskar, 34, of Bradford, was sentenced to 15 days to one year in McKean County Jail with credit for 102 days of time served and one year of consecutive probation for charges of possession of an instrument of crime, false identification to a law enforcement officer and possession of a controlled substance. On Aug. 8, Puskar pleaded guilty to allegations that on June 3, he possessed methamphetamine and items such as a tin foil bag, a glass pyrex dish, a hairdryer, salt and coffee filters. When a police officer told him he was subject to an investigation, Puskar told him his name was William Thomas.

Simon E. Albright, 22, of Bradford, was sentenced to 18 days to one year in McKean County Jail with credit for 24 days of time served for charges of resisting arrest and possession of marijuana. Albright pleaded guilty Aug. 8 to allegations that on May 3, he possessed less than 30 grams of marijuana, and he tried to pull away from three officers who had him in custody, which required them to reposition his handcuffs.

Dakota R. Allen, 22, of Bradford, was sentenced to 30 days to six months in McKean County Jail with credit for 108 days of time served for a charge of simple assault. Allen pleaded guilty Sept. 5 to allegations that on May 28, he punched and kicked his stepfather during a mutual fight.

Misty R. Mihalko, 34, of Smethport, will serve 30 days to one year in McKean County Jail for a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.

Zachary R. Rakocy, 28, of Olean, N.Y., will serve six months of probation for a charge of DUI-general impairment and summary charges.

Donald J. Nolan, 57, of Latrobe, will serve 60 days of house arrest for a charge of illegally operating a vehicle without ignition interlock and a summary charge.
