Comedy Sandwich — Bradford Little Theatre’s new improv troupe — will make its Bradford debut with a show this Saturday.
This is the group’s second performance altogether. Since the troupe performed its very first show Aug. 23 in Cuba, N.Y., members have come up with a name: Comedy Sandwich.
Kristin Asinger, improv troupe member and BLT president, explained that name is a play on a common abbreviation for Bradford Little Theatre, which is also the abbreviation for a bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwich.
The improv show will also kick off of BLT’s 23rd season.
Doors open at 7 p.m., and the show begins at 7:30 p.m. The show location is the Afterwords Club at Beefeaters. The show will be about one hour and 15 minutes long, with no intermission.
The show is open to audience members of all ages, though Asinger noted it is a judgment call for parents to bring young children to a venue that serves alcohol. The show itself won’t be adult humor.
“It’s just going to be fun, silly humor and creativeness,” she said.
What they do is similar to the television show “Whose Line Is It Anyway?”
For the show, troupe members will have a set of improv games, but where those scenes go will be determined by suggestions from the audience, according to Asinger. For some games, the audience can shout out their answers, but for others, such as Pocket Sentences, audience members who get there early will write their suggestions on a piece of paper.
Audience participation will be on a volunteer basis only; No one will be put on the spot to come up with ideas or perform.
Taking the “stage” will be the whole eight-member troupe: Kristin Asinger, Brad Gale, Tim Asinger, Tiffany Mager, Lori Vickery, Darren Hilmes, Andrew Truman and Mike Clark.
As Bradford Little Theatre is starting its 23rd season, the audience will hear about what the group has planned for the season, too.
While Comedy Sandwich is a new group, Bradford Little Theatre fans have had the opportunity to see BLT perform improv at past productions.
The 2017 production of “Tony N’ Tina’s Wedding” included a lot of improv, and BLT’s Big Fat Fun-raiser — with a title that was a play on “My Big Fat Greek Wedding” — was also an improv show.
The cost is a $10 donation per person at the door, and advance tickets will not be available. Proceeds from ticket sales and a 50/50 drawing will help support the Bradford Little Theatre.
Money from the cash bar and menu will go to Afterwords.
The theater group had performed shows such as 2016’s “The Awesome 80s Prom” there, and Asinger thought the intimate setting would be great for an improv show.
“I think we’ll have a good crowd,” said Asinger.
