A redundant water transmission main project by the Bradford City Water Authority moved one small step closer to fruition on Monday, when Bradford Area School Board approved easements on school district property.
During Monday’s regular school board meeting, the board approved right-of-way requests for two parcels: one from 26 to 40 Willard St. and the other on the Willard Street Extension.
The water authority will use the land to install a 24-inch water main from the water treatment plant on West Corydon Street to the reservoir on Prospect Avenue.
Once that main is in place, the water authority plans to repair the existing older transmission main. The project is intended to provide a redundant transmission main to prevent a water crisis like one that happened in 2015 in the Bradford area.
Also at the meeting, student Elyse Godding gave a presentation on her recent experience competing in the Down Under Sports Cup Invitation in Australia.
Elyse was able to make the trip due to a “whole bunch of support from the Bradford community” while she was fundraising, she said.
In an international competition, she received third place for the U.S. team and ninth overall, and in an All-American competition, she came in second on the U.S. team.
Kelly Compton, the district’s director of curriculum and instruction, announced that a communitywide meeting will be held at 4 p.m. Sept. 24 in the LGI Room at Floyd C. Fretz Middle School to provide input on a district-wide comprehensive plan that is due to the state in March 2020.
The meeting is for anyone who wants to be a part of “creating a mission for our future together,” Compton explained.
A representative from student council announced that this year’s homecoming parade and football game will be Oct. 4, followed by the homecoming dance on Oct. 5.
The school board approved several other orders of business: a cyber service agreement with Warren County School District, a change order decreasing the cost of an HVAC project by $18,422 down to $30,468 to Arrow Electric, a resolution extending the Keystone Opportunity Zone (KOZ) tax abatement of the Lafferty Hollow Industrial Park property and a list of overnight trips for athletic and student activities.
The board also accepted the following resignations from personnel: Steven Kloss, social studies teacher at Bradford Area High School; Dakota Skinner, high school science teacher; Andrew Carlson, high school social studies teacher; Jonathon Blake Nuzzo, latch key aide at School Street Elementary School; David LeMage, substitute custodian; Santana Romero, bus driver; and Michael Hamer, high school general aide.
Hirees approved include Mitchell McEwen, high school biology; Stacy Gallagher, special education at School Street; Lance Baker, high school social studies; Robert South, crossing guard; and Thomas Langdon, Fretz custodian.
