Cameron County, Galeton, Coudy earn season-opening sweeps

Cameron County 3, Northern Potter 0

ULYSSES — Cameron County swept Northern Potter 3-0 ( 25-8, 25-20, 25-18) on Tuesday night behind big performances from Hailey Hilfiger and Morgan Lorenzo.

Lorenzo posted six aces, 12 digs and four kills on the evening, while Hilfiger chipped in six digs and 11 kills for the Lady Raiders.

NoPo’s Savannah Herring notched seven kills and a pair of blocks. The Lady Panthers are now 0-2 on the season and 0-1 in North Tier League play.

    Olean 3, Port Allegany 0

OLEAN, N.Y. — Adele Dwaileebe and Brynn Ackerman each had six kills to lead Olean to a convincing three-set sweep of Port Allegany in a non-league season-opening matchup Tuesday night.

Grace Parr contributed five aces for Olean, which won 25-5, 25-16, 25-4.

No Port Allegany stats were available.

    Oswayo Valley 3, Otto-Eldred 1

    SHINGLEHOUSE — Jaden Brabham had 13 kills to lead the Lady Green Wave to a four-set (25-19, 17-25, 25-20, 25-21) season-opening victory.

Brabham also added 10 service points, five aces and three blocks for Oswayo Valley (1-0, 1-0).

Teammate Johanna Dickerson had 20 assists and two aces, Avaree Kellert added 12 kills, three blocks and an ace and Macy West had seven kills, 10 service points and three blocks.

“Great win to open the season,” OV coach Rachelle Kellogg said. “We have a young, talented team this year so it was nice to have them come out with a big win to start.”

Otto-Eldred (0-1, 0-1) was led by eight kills from Reilly Raught, 24 assists by Emmalee Sheeler and nine kills from Hayley Cousins.

    Galeton 3, Austin 0

    GALETON — The Lady Tigers earned a season-opening sweep (25-20, 25-12, 25-20) over Austin.

Amber Brandt had eight service points for the Lady Panthers (0-1, 0-1) while Kylie Welsh had four blocks.

    Coudersport 3, Smethport 0

COUDERSPORT — Coudersport took its season opener over Smethport with a 25-16, 27-25, 25-15 sweep Tuesday.

The Lady Falcons (1-0) were led by Lauren Stimaker’s double-double with 16 assists and 11 service points. She added three kills, five aces, two digs and a block.

Addie Myers logged five kills and two blocks for Coudy, and Emma Saulter posted 16 digs, seven points and an ace. Makayla Kavounas tacked on four kills and seven points.

“I thought we played very well tonight,” Coudersport head coach Brittany Foschia said. “Probably the best I have seen us play so far. We remained in system throughout most of the match.

“We struggled a little in the second set on the serve receive, but the girls remained focused and did what they had to do to win. We played as a team, kept the ball under control and served everything in. As long as we keep playing the way we did tonight, we will have a great season.”

The Lady Hubbers were led by Alyn Thomas’ five kills, four blocks and one assist. Lexi Shall added four kills, two blocks and two assists for Smethport.

Coudy is off until Sept. 9’s away match at Oswayo Valley. Smethport hosts OV at home Thursday.
