GALETON – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced Wednesday that a recently started project on Route 1003 (Loucks Mills Road) in Potter County was made possible by a partnership between PennDOT and JKLM Energy, LLC of Sewickley.
The full depth reclamation project got underway with preliminary work in early August. Drainage work followed in mid-August. The project will prolong the useful life of the roadway while bringing safer and smoother travel to area drivers.
“Investments and partnerships like this one highlight the value of Pennsylvania’s rural areas,” Governor Tom Wolf said. “This improvement project will provide more convenient and safe travel through this beautiful, scenic region”.
This work is part of a group contract to address 14.5 miles of roadway in Potter County.
Funding for the Loucks Mills Road work includes $900,000 from JKLM Energy which was matched by $900,000 through PennDOT’s Partnership Program.
The work zone begins about 1.5 miles north of the Route 6 intersection and stretches to Hardscrabble Road. Currently, flaggers in the roadway are enforcing an alternating traffic pattern as drainage work continues.
Loucks Mills Road will be closed temporarily in mid-September to perform full depth reclamation work in an efficient manner. PennDOT will issue an update on the schedule before the closure and detour go into effect.
Overall work on Loucks Mills Road includes drainage improvements, roadway milling, asphalt paving, guiderail upgrades, and miscellaneous construction.
Glenn O. Hawbaker, Inc. of State College, PA is the contractor on this $1.8 million project, which is expected to be complete in early October.
