Fall foliage: Fall is almost here, and the beautiful colors of the leaves turning is a fun diversion for the whole family. In Pennsylvania, the Kinzua Bridge State Park is a great place to visit to enjoy the fall foliage, but there are other options as well. Jump in the car and take a tour of the scenic back roads of the state.
Or, you can head out and visit these various locations to take a train ride and sit back and enjoy the kaleidoscope of fall colors sweeping by.
The first option for a train ride takes the Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway. This trip covers a 70-minute span and travels 16 miles round-trip, all aboard a historic coach built as far back as 1917. Your trip travels over bridges and through Glen Onoko before entering the Lehigh Gorge State Park.
Another option for a train ride to fun and color is the Colebrookdale Railroad, where the ride is aboard a Civil War-era train and the trip takes you through Secret Valley. This particular ride takes two hours, so plan accordingly.
For an even longer trip, the Oil Creek & Titusville Railroad offers a three-hour round trip that tours the Oil Heritage Region. This trip is only available for passengers to enjoy from Oct. 3 through the 21.
The Pumpkin Ride is another option for fall fun. This steam train-powered excursion leaves from New Freedom and provides engaging Halloween stories in addition to the gorgeous fall views. This trip takes place on Oct.14. Visitors can also decorate a mask in the gift shop prior to boarding, if they so desire.
One final fun option is the Festival of Trolleys, held Oct. 7 and 8 in Rockhill Furnace. During this festival, a trolley can be ridden that is only brought out for the festival. Visitors are encouraged to take a ride, enjoy the fall foliage and take lots of photographs.
