SMETHPORT — The McKean-Cameron Bi-County American Legion’s parade Monday in Smethport in recognition of the national American Legion’s centennial anniversary will feature a huge unfurled American flag carried by the Sons of the American Legion, Bucktail Squadron #138, Detachment of Pennsylvania from Smethport.
The huge flag, which measures 15’x25’, is on loan for this occasion.
The parade forms at 11 a.m. and moves at 1 p.m.
Bart Barton, president of the Bucktail Club at the Bucktail Post #138, Smethport American Legion, and parade committee member, said the American Legion Riders will lead the parade, which will start at Church and West Main streets, and proceed east to Mechanic Street and south to Willow, ending at the entrance to Hamlin Lake Park. Food and beverage vendors will be located at the park.
Some riders from the VFW and Nam Knights will also be present to help celebrate this anniversary.
Next in line will be the veterans’ color guard and post flags, followed by Fran Doutt, Bi-County commander, a Navy veteran and commander of the John Berg Memorial Post #976, Crosby American Legion.
Also in the line of march will be Legion members — walking and riding — Sons of the American Legion, American Legion Auxiliaries, high school bands, floats, Boy and Girl Scouts, 4-H groups, fire departments and ambulance services.
The announcer’s stand will be located at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church.
