Power was out for several hours Thursday afternoon in the Foster Township area when storms spread through the region.
Christine Hajoway from Penelec said as far as she could tell, about 65 residential and commercial customers were impacted when a tree fell.
“The outage was due to an ash tree that was uprooted and fell on the power lines,” she said, adding the lines broke from the impact.
“We sent a crew out to remove the tree and repair the line,” she explained. “The power was out for about three hours.”
The outage happened around 1 p.m. off East Main Street in the vicinity of the Bradford Mall, Hajoway said. The last of the customers had power restored by 4 p.m.
While rumors had spread on Thursday that WalMart had been struck by lightning, The Era was unable to confirm that. The McKean County 9-1-1 Center had no record of any calls regarding lightning strikes, and the Walmart employee who answered the phone at the store Thursday evening had no information about it either.
Hajoway said the storms that moved through the region did cause some power outages throughout the service area, but no lasting damage was reported.
A tree fell on a house on Lincoln Avenue in the City of Bradford at 1:01 p.m. Thursday. Bradford City firefighters said a large tree fell on the porch and front part of a residence, ripping down utility wires and some siding, as well as damaging the porch. No injuries were reported.
Bradford City Police assisted at the scene.
