The McKean County Community Foundation awarded nine seniors from Kane Area High School scholarships.
Scholarship recipients were Alysha Biel, Sashy and Gladys Kane Perpetual Scholarship for $1,000 and John & Donna Hulings Scholarship for $500; Alex Rezzelle, Sashy and Gladys Kane Perpetual Scholarship for $1,000 and Chuck Daly Memorial Scholarship for $1,000; Paige Niklas, Jeff and Shelli Johnson Memorial Scholarship for $500;
Ella Marconi, Diana J. Hulings Memorial Scholarship for $500, Steve Jerman Memorial Scholarship for $500, Chuck Daly Memorial Scholarship for $1,000 and Carrie Sauers Memorial Scholarship for $500; Halle Saf, John & Donna Hulings Scholarship for $500 and Steve Jerman Memorial Scholarship for $500;
Raisa Wright, Paul Robert & Friedia Roberta Calkins Rolfe Scholarship, $4,000 over four years; Dessa Gentile, Tristan Sauers Memorial Scholarship for $500; Adam Sicher, Kane Day School Alumni Scholarship for $500; and Krisalyn Rhodes, Gary Meckley Scholarship for $1,000.
Biel, daughter of Thomas and Chelise Biel, plans to attend Penn State University to major in veterinary and biomedical science. After graduation she wants to become a veterinarian and someday run her own practice. In high school, Biel was a member of student council, S.A.D.D. and National Honor Society. She also volunteered around the community and in church.
Rezzelle, son of John and Nancy Rezzelle, plans to attend Slippery Rock University majoring in resort, recreation and hospitality management. He wants to pursue a management position at Walt Disney World. While attending KAHS, Rezzelle was involved in National Honor Society as vice president, student council, KARE for Kane, the basketball and golf teams and Special Olympics as a volunteer, and he was an Eagle Scout.
Niklas, daughter of Lisa Lorenzo, is a graduate of KAHS. After taking three college classes through the Northern Pennsylvania Regional College, Niklas plans to attend Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where she will major in psychology and minor in sociology. Her career goal is to become a school psychologist.
Marconi, daughter of Michael and Sherry Marconi and a KAHS graduate, plans to attend Duquesne University to major in nursing. She hopes to work in an intensive care unit for two years, then attend graduate school to become a nurse anesthetist. While in high school, Marconi was a member of the volleyball, basketball and softball teams, student council, S.A.D.D, National Honor Society and prom committee, and she served as a class officer.
Saf, daughter of John and Elaine Saf, plans to attend Duquesne University for an accelerated five-year master’s degree in forensic science and law. While attending KAHS, she was a cantor at St. Callistus Church, a Bible Club leader and an altar server; she volunteered for Operation Christmas Child & Dinner for the homebound and the Special Olympics; and she took part in backpacking program, student council, Hi-Life, Hurri-Kane, KARE for Kane, prom committee and National Honor Society. She wants to work for the FBI.
Wright, daughter of Brian and Trisha Wright, will attend the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford to major in nursing with a minor in psychology. Following undergraduate graduation, she hopes to work for the United States Public Health Service Commissioned Corps as a registered nurse and to earn a master of science degree in nursing to become a psychiatric nurse practitioner. While attending KAHS, Wright was a member and president of S.A.D.D., a member of concert band, orchestra, drumline, Intermediate Unit 9 band, academic banquet orchestra, graduation orchestra, track & field, sideline cheerleading and competitive cheerleading. She volunteered for Haunted Hallways, K.A.R.E for Kane, Carved Pumpkin Walk and Read with the Teams. She was chosen in 2017 to travel to Europe to be part of the American Music Abroad Honors Band.
Gentile, daughter of Anthony and Tine Gentile, plans to attend Pittsburgh Technical College to major in hospitality. While attending KAHS, she was part of soccer, cheer committee, Big Feed, Presents for Patients, Ludlow Sportsman’s Club and the “Wizard of Oz” musical, and she volunteered at the blood drive.
Sicher, son of Matt and Mary Sicher and a graduate of KAHS, plans to attend the University of Pittsburgh and major in biomedical engineering. Sicher was part of the wrestling and trap teams, the backpack program, S.A.D.D, enrichment, National Honor Society, quiz bowl, Envirothon, student council, science Olympiad, and the computer fair, and he was a Special Olympics volunteer.
Krisalyn Rhodes is the daughter of Bryan and Laura Rhodes. She plans to attend Juniata College, where she will be studying biochemistry on the pre-dental track with a plan to become an oral surgeon. While attending KAHS, Rhodes participated in musical and art groups, athletics and community service. She was selected for the Juniata concert band as a flutist and also to be a member of the Juniata Eagles cheerleading squad.
